Can you spot the family in the spotlight ?

He is a Software Engineer (or so, he claims). Now that's about 98% of all Kannadigas here we know.
He works for Keane Consulting.

OK. his wife is a budding but successful entrepreneur.  Should I still go on ? Tsk, tsk, tsk !
She has a successful Avon business.

OK. They have a son and a daughter. Still clueless ?
Sanjana and Omkar

He did his Masters on Mardi Gras (or so, we claim) since he went to school in that state. Oh, come on !  How many times haven't you envied him.
He got his Master's from Louisiana State University at Ruston.

He went to RVCE. She went to..  no, that would make this too easy. OK. She did her schooling in Sophia's.
She got her Bachelors degree from Mount Carmel and her MBA from NC Central University, Durham.

He is Nala. No. I didn't say she is Damayanti. But he is Nala. Geez ! Now we have to add a section on "Learn your heritage".
He is a good cook. He conjures up dishes (sometimes from other dishes too).

They are both from namma Bengaluru (near Mekhri Circle). At least, he is. But she sounds more like from the UK. But shh !
He grew up near University of Agriculture Sciences, Hebbal while she grew up close to Mount Carmel College.

They now live in the peak of good living.
They now live in Apex.

If you still haven't been able to guess who this friendly and wonderful family is, then wait till the next issue. After that, go and befriend them.

ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಕಿರುನೋಟಗಳು  (Glimpses of Karnataka)

Old linguistic phase (850 - 1200 CE). Jain literature.

The contribution of Jains to Kannada literature has been extremely valuable. From the available prakrit, Sanskrit and Kannada literature of Karnataka, the Jaina literature in these languages, stands as the earliest. Kavirajamarga is the earliest available writing of a complete literary work.  It refers to many great poets, authors and literary works that influenced it. So this means that Kannada literature was rich and mature much before the time of Kavirajamarga.

The Jaina Kannada poets, in addition to being the earliest, are admired, even to this day, for their poetical excellence.

Ruchi Recipes

Winter "mango" cravings

Time to cook: 15 mins.
 
Ingredients:
  • Green apple   2 to 3
  • Green chillies  (to taste)
  • Coconut    (quarter cup)
  • peanuts    (quarter cup)
  • salt
Seasoning:
  • turmeric
  • urad dhal
  • channa dhal
  • mustard seeds
  • hing
  • ginger
  • curry leaves
Method:
  1. Dice green apples.
  2. Slit green chillies
  3. Heat 2 tsp of oil in a deep  frying pan.
  4. Fry peanuts until golden brown. Keep it aside.
  5. Add all the seasoning ingredients and green chillies to the oil.
  6. After the oil splatters, add diced green apples.
  7. Leave it on medium heat for 5-10 mins.
  8. Mix this with 1 cup of cooked rice.
  9. Add fried peanuts
  10. Garnish with cilantro and coconut.
  11. Add salt to taste.
