Sampige has various activities planned through out the year. These were some of the events that were held so far.
Makara
Sankranti - Saturday, January 19
Makara Sankranti was organized by Tamil Cultural Association, and
Sampige partook in the cultural events of the celebration. Nikita
Jathan danced to the Koravanji song, which was choreographed by Namitha
Jathan. Nikita performed the dance really well, with exquisite eye and
hand expressions.

Ugadhi -
Saturday, April 13
Sampige participated in the Ugadhi festivities which was organized by
Triangle Area Telugu Association. Sampige presented a Bharatnatyam
style dance choreographed by Namitha Jathan.
Sampige also lent a big hand by preparing the famous Mysore Bisibele Bath and Mosaranna, which was served as part of the lunch to about 600 member audience. Sampige would like to express its gratitude for all the persons who pitched prepared the food: Nandini Ganapathi, Harish Amble, Suma Patil, Shobha Gundappa, Veena Kashyap, Bharathi Srinivasa, Reshma Tharuvesanchi, .
We would like to thank Sreedevi Jaganath who put in a lot of time and effort to create a big banner in Kannada, saying Ugadhiya Shubhashayagalu.
Purandara
Dasara Aradhane - Saturday, May 11
This event was held between 11:30 AM and 2:00 PM and was organized by
Sampige, for the Hindu Society of North Carolina. Purandara Dasa is
famous among the Haridasas of Karnataka and is foremost among the
talented Karnatic composers. He has been attributed as composing
4,75,000 'Kirthanas' and has been known as the Forefather of Karnatic
Music. His works have earned the name 'Purandaropanishat'.
In honor of Purandara Dasa a variety of songs and dances based on the compositions of various saints were presented. The program started off with Sri. R. K. Srikantan lighting the lamp. Then the kids sang "Sri Gana Naatha" and other songs. This was followed by Ghoshti Gaana, in which some of the members of the audience also joined in. Later a number devotional songs and Vachanas were sung by different groups. A group dance and two solo dances followed.
Summer Picnic - Saturday, June 1
The Sampige Summer Picnic was held between 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Cary's Thomas Brooks Park. Eventhough the temperature reached the low 90's, the spirit of the picnicers was high as they took part in various games such as soccer, cricket using baseball bat (!), lagori, kite flying, water balloons, and passing the wet sponge. The food consisted of "make your own" veggie burgers, tacos and mosranna. We had plenty of masale majjige, ice cream, cake and watermelon to quench the thirst.
Independence Day - Sunday, August 18
Sampige participated in a big way during the Independence day celebrations was organized by Hindi Vikas Mandal for the Hindu Society of North Carolina. Sampige assisted in the parade and had an exhibition around the theme of "Dasara Celebration" in Karnataka. As a cultural item, Sampige presented a tableau/drama based on a song from the movie "Naagara Haavu" that describes the bravery of Onake Obavva and her ultimate sacrifice in defense of the Chitradurga fort against Hyder Ali's army. Sampige also had a food stall selling the goli bajji, Bisibele bath, Raitha and Majjige.
Krishna Janmashtami - Saturday, September 7
Sampige organized this successful program for the Hindu Society of North Carolina. Sampige, Triangle Area Telugu Association, Triangle Cultural Association, Maratha Mandal, Triangle Indian Youth Organization, Lasya School of Dance & Music, Nrityangan, along with several groups and individuals presented a memorable event. The program contained dances in Indian classical dance styles of Bharathanatya, Kathak, and Kuchipudi. The program also had flute recital, dances and songs based on folk and movies. The program concluded with an excellent flute recital by Mysore A. Chandan Kumar.
Mathadhana Kannada Movie - Sunday, September 15
Sampige presented the much acclaimed movie "Mathadhana" at Madstone Theatre on Sunday Sept 15th at 1:00 pm. The movie has been directed by the award winning director T.N. Seetharam of the "Maya Mrugha" and "Manvantara" TV series fame. The Kannadigas of the triangle enjoyed this FREE screening, thanks to Veena and Vijay Dhuler who supported this venture.
After the movie we had an inspiring talk by a Film Actor/Dancer Sridhar conveying his thoughts about the movie, Kannada Movie Industry, 2002 Detroit Kannada Conference, and his impressions about the Kannadigas in the US.
